Small business is the backbone of America, is a statement that is familiar to many. In the United States, small businesses employ more than 58 million people, representing approximately 47% of the countrys workforce. Two attributes typically used to define small- to medium-sized businesses (SMB) are number of employees and annual revenue. Small businesses have less than 100 employees and annual revenue of less than $50 million. Medium-sized businesses have between 100-999 employees and annual revenue greater than $50 million, but less than $1 billion.
